I was supposed to write this blog years ago!
As an aerialist, I tend to gravitate towards a "type" of apparatus, i.e. metal hoop versus polyester "silks." Over the past 12 years I've certainly gravitated towards the metal apparatus.
I mean anything metal; street signs, railings, traditional aerial equipment, poles, dresses... you name it!
...as you can see, I'm obsessed.
So my preferred element, Metal, is what I both literally and figuratively surround myself with and in - my actual element is Water.
What is the significance of Metal in regards to the Five Elements? Well, here's a good one from ChinaHighlights.com:
"Five Elements Theory is a Chinese philosophy used to describe interactions and relationships between things. The five elements — wood, fire, earth, metal, and water — are believed to be the fundamental elements of everything in the universe between which interactions occur."
Metal is certainly my interactive partner of choice. This means that West is my Fengshui direction; Autumn my season; my climate dry; color white; and shape round (ha! Aerial hoops). Although Water is actually my designated element, Metal is where it's at for me.
The Metal element's planet is Mars, its heavenly creature the white tiger, with a virtue of righteousness. The Metal element is ambitious, determined, progressive, persistent and spicy. All true.
Apparently 2020 is both a 12-year Metal element cycle as well as the Year of the Rat (my actual Chinese zodiac sign), which means that 2020 is the Year of the Metal Rat. I'd wear this with pride except that we haven't really gotten off to a great start with 2020, so let's breeze past that.
What's your element of choice?
